I thought it had all the charm of an authentic Asian piece but without the hefty price tag. It was better than all the other Asian end/night tables available. It also appeared to be durable, and as advertised, a "fine handcrafted wood chest." Having only owned it a short period of time, I was surprised to find several cracks have begun to appear on both the top and sides of this chest. Because it isn't a quality wood, the cracks don't add to the charm. Instead it looks cheap. I can't for the life of me figure how a new piece of furniture would have more cracks in it than any of my antique pieces dated more than 200 years old.
The company that shipped it to me said the manufacturer was not willing to compensate me in any way explaining I was outside my warranty period. The company itself offered 50% off a future purchase. That hardly makes me whole. Rather, it makes them several hundred dollars richer. And the manufacturer makes out like a bandit.
I wouldn't advise anyone purchase this piece if they are looking for it to contribute to the beauty and character of their home for the long haul. Spend the extra money and get a better quality product that actually uses a quality wood!
