Yes, it is made of twigs, but they are super smooth...in fact, when I opened it up, I had to check the description just to be sure! I purchased the coffee color and it is a nice black and while I haven't had to wash it yet, it doesn't seem like it would be too horrendous to simply wipe it off with a damp cloth as advised.
